Odmalička jsem měl problémy s průduškami a díky tomu se moje cesta do hor začala odvíjet už v dětství. Na doporučení lékařů mě můj tatínek často brával na výlety do Krkonoš a Jizerských hor. Tam jsem se také o něco později jako dítě naučil lyžovat. Na základní škole jsem se věnoval mnoha sportům – bavila mně kanoistika a lehká atletika. S kamarády jsme často vyráželi na trampy do Českého Švýcarska a právě tam došlo na první „šplhání“ za vrcholovými knížkami menších věží. Můj zájem o přírodu vzrůstal a při rozhodování co dál padla moje volba na Střední lesnickou školu v Trutnově.

Z Trutnova je to už jen kousek do Teplicko-Adršpašských skal, které se posléze staly cílem našich odvážných
klukovských výjezdů za lezením. Koncem osmdesátých let jsem na horolezeckém festivalu v Teplicích nad Metují získal svoje první lano – třicetimetrovou statiku. Ale co, hlavně že to bylo opravdové lano a nám se otevřely nové možnosti. Zpočátku byly naše výjezdy spíše turistického rázu-najít vhodnou věž a na ní cestu někdy zabralo i půl dne, její dobývání s našim "vybavením" pak dalšího půl dne, ovšem zážitky to byly opravdové a výstup vskutku zasloužený. Ve stejné době jsem také poprvé vyrazil do hor. Okouzlily mě fotografie v knížkách Viléma Heckela, proto jsem neváhal, když mi starší kamarád nabídl místo ve výpravě do italských Dolomit. Život v horách mě nadchnul a dodnes mně přitahuje dobrodružství, vzdálenost od civilizace, nutnost být odkázán sám na sebe, na své schopnosti a zodpovědnost. Po maturitě jsem se rozhodl studovat na Lesnické a dřevařské fakultě Mendlovy zemědělské a lesnické univerzity v Brně. Můj zájem o hory a lezení jen rostl a tak jsem si musel začít vydělávat výškovými pracemi a brigádami v HUDYsportu, kde jsem potkal podobně založené lidi. Díky nim jsem objevil další krásy hor, zejména Alp.

Mými nejoblíbenějšími oblastmi jsou masivy na italsko-švýcarských hranicích (například Bergell), Dolomity a Chamonix, které si zachovává v mých očích mnoho ze svého genia loci. Každý si tam přijde na své a objeví něco pro sebe. S klienty také rád vyrážím na Rudolfshutte, která poskytuje perfektní servis a ideální možnosti lyžařských a ledovcových tůr i lezení v ledu. Z hlediska lyžování se mi líbí také stubaiské Alpy. Ovšem mojí srdeční záležitostí se stal již zmíněný Adršpach.

Během studia v Brně jsem se stal členem horolezeckého oddílu Lokomotiva Brno. Využil jsem zde možnosti přihlásit se na instruktorský kurz pod vedením Dušan Stuchlíka, tehdejšího předsedy metodické komise ČHS, který na mě velmi zapůsobil. V průběhu tohoto kurzu jsem si uvědomil, že by mě bavilo pracovat jako on – učit lidi životu v horách, předávat jim cenné a užitečné znalosti a hlavně se podílet na vytváření jejich osobního vztahu k horám a přírodě. Pokoušel jsem se o to v následujících letech, kdy jsem působil jako instruktor nových členů našeho oddílu. Díky Dušanovi jsem se stal také lektorem metodické komise ČHS. Vůdcovský kurz, který jsem pak absolvoval,
mě více než vědomostem naučil odpovědnosti za druhé. Uvědomil jsem si, že není jen tak, vzít cizího člověka na lano. Každý může udělat chybu a také ji často udělá. A já na to musím být neustále připravený.
